Who We Are
Who We Are
We're Matthew and Elizabeth. Four years ago we bought a fixer-upper on fifteen acres in upstate South Carolina that we named Hidden Acres Farm. Through trial and (so much) error, we have learned some stuff about gardening, raising our own meat, repairing drywall, finding a village, and living better.
What We Do
Matthew is a credit analyst for a software company, and Elizabeth is an assistant to an elected county official. When we aren't earning money to pay for chicken feed and paint, we drink a lot of coffee, garden, read, and hang out with friends. Our current obsessions include: making an automatic poultry feeder, fixing our fences, and eating or preserving all the things from our garden.
Why We Blog
We believe that growing food and taking care of animals are two of the most important things people can do. Growing our own meat and veggies and taking care of fifteen acres has been a mammoth task (before we moved here, neither of us had even mowed a lawn). We could not have done it without help from an amazing "village" of people . But we are learning and getting more comfortable all the time. If we can do it, anyone can do it!
Here you will find stories about our life and the farm, recipes (like Potato, Zucchini, Tomato Gratin and Brownie Pillow Cookies) , remodeling projects, and the occasional book recommendation.
Thanks for stopping by!
A note about affiliated links: once in a while we will write about a product that we have bought and used. Any link to Amazon will be affiliated (we will get a small percentage back from Amazon for recommending their product). However, anything we recommend is something we have bought and paid for ourselves.
